You have a business idea. Now what?

Maybe you know what you want to sell. You might even have a name, an Instagram account or a few early customers.

But turning an idea into a business means making a lot of decisions.

How should the business be set up? What do you actually need before you start taking customers? How will people find you, book or buy, pay you and receive what they've purchased?

Then there are the things that aren't nearly as exciting, but still matter. Business registrations. Banking. Record keeping. Insurance. Terms and conditions. Privacy. Technology. Payments. Systems.

And somehow, all of those pieces need to work together.

The problem isn't that the information isn't out there.

It's that it's scattered everywhere, you don't always know what you need to look for, and it's difficult to know what to do first.

That's where Open for Business comes in.

From business idea to Open for Business

You don't need to figure everything out at once.

Open for Business takes you through the process in a practical order, so you can focus on the decisions and actions that matter at each stage.

01: DEFINE

Get clear on the business you're building.

Explore and shape your offer, who it's for and the different ways you could deliver it. Get clear on your priorities, constraints and non-negotiables. Then make practical decisions about your offer and business model, creating something that works for your customers, your circumstances and the kind of business you want to build.

02: SETUP

Put the foundations of your business in place.

Work through the practical essentials of setting up a real business, including your business structure and registrations, banking and payments, financial record keeping, insurance, and the legal and compliance requirements that may apply to you. Know what's required, what decisions you need to make and when it's time to get professional advice.

03: BUILD

Turn your plans into a business that works.

Develop your brand, map your customer journey and build the customer-facing experience, from your online presence to enquiries, bookings, payments and communications. Choose and connect the technology you actually need including behind-the-scenes systems that keep the business running and supports you as a solopreneur.

04: TEST

Make sure it works before you open the doors.

Test your customer journey and the systems behind it, from forms, bookings and payments to automations, integrations and record keeping. Follow real-world scenarios from start to finish, check that information flows where it should, find the gaps, fix what isn't working and make sure your business is operationally ready for its first customers.

You won't just learn about business. You'll build yours.

Open for Business is designed around doing.

Across eight practical modules, you'll make the decisions, create the foundations, build the systems and test the pieces you need to turn your idea into a working business.

MODULE 01

Your Business Blueprint

Explore and shape your offer, get clear on who you're building it for, and work through the priorities, constraints and decisions that will shape how your business works.

MODULE 02

Establish Your Business

Work through your business identity, structure, registrations and other practical requirements to establish your business properly and understand the rules that apply to you.

MODULE 03

Protect Your Business

Identify the legal, insurance, privacy, consumer and other risks relevant to your business, decide what needs to be addressed and recognise when professional advice is needed.

MODULE 04

Set Up Your Money Flow

Decide how customers will pay you, separate your business finances, set up banking and record keeping, and make sure you can confidently track the money flowing through your business.

MODULE 05

Design Your Customer Journey

Map what happens from the moment someone discovers your business through to enquiry, purchase, onboarding, delivery and follow-up, including what needs to happen behind the scenes.

MODULE 06

Build Your Tech Stack

Work out what technology your business actually needs, choose tools that suit your requirements, budget and capabilities, and plan how those tools need to work together.

MODULE 07

Build Your Working Business

Bring your business to life. Develop your brand and build the customer-facing and operational pieces you need, including your digital presence, communications, systems and delivery processes.

MODULE 08

Test & Get Launch Ready

Put the whole business through its paces. Test the customer experience, transactions, systems, automations and integrations, fix the gaps and make sure everything works together before you open the doors.

By the end, you'll know your business works.

You'll complete the Launch Ready Checklist with a business that's structured, set up, connected and tested, ready to open the doors to your first customers.

You’re building the business.

You don’t have to figure it all out yourself.

Open for Business combines a practical, step-by-step business build with live guidance and the support of a small group of solopreneurs working through the same process.

Work Through the Guided Build

Build at your own pace.

Open for Business combines a practical, step-by-step business build with live guidance and the support of a small group of solopreneurs working through the same process.

Join the Weekly Workshops

Bring your questions and sticking points.

Each week we'll meet live to work through questions, decisions and challenges that have come up as you build. You'll get practical guidance and learn from the questions and experiences of others in the group.

Get Practical Guidance

Have someone to help you think it through.

When you're unsure what makes sense, I'll help you explore your options, ask the questions you may not have considered and work through the trade-offs, so you can make decisions that suit the business you're actually building.

Build Alongside Other Solopreneurs

You're not doing this in isolation.

You'll have access to the Open for Business community throughout the program, where you can ask questions, share progress, compare ideas and learn alongside other people building businesses of their own.

Eight weeks. One clear goal.

You're not doing this in isolation.

Over eight weeks, you'll work through the Open for Business modules while building your business alongside them, supported by weekly live workshops and the Open for Business community.

The goal is simple: to finish with your business structured, set up, connected and tested, ready to open the doors to your first customers.

  • You don't need another list of things to do.

There's no shortage of information about starting a business.

What's much harder is knowing which questions to ask, which decisions matter, what order to tackle them in and what makes sense for the business you're trying to build.

That's where I come in.  Hi, I'm Ash.

I've spent more than 20 years working in accounting and business, helping people make sense of decisions, solve problems and work out what needs to happen next. More recently, I've been on the other side of the table, building my own solopreneur business from the ground up.

What I'm particularly good at is listening to what someone is trying to build and asking the questions that help make it clearer.

I'll help you explore your options, spot things you may not have considered and work through the practical trade-offs. Sometimes that means challenging an assumption. Sometimes it's spotting a constraint before it becomes a problem. And sometimes it's simply asking, “Have you thought about doing it this way?”

I won't build your business for you, and I won't pretend there's one right way to do it.

I'll help you work out what your business needs, make good decisions and keep moving forward.
